Our Vineyard

In 1956 Gesue Di Loreto an immigrant from in Italy purchased an existing vineyard property just north of Adelaide in South Australia. Here he established the Di Loreto Vineyard Estate. Located at Lewiston the vineyard comprises 22 acres of old vines some of which are around 100 years old. In 1980, Gesue’s son Tony Di Loreto took over the plantation as winemaker and grape producer. Each year a selection of fruit is reserved for the wine produced by the Di Loreto Vineyard with the remainder sold to PENFOLDS for premium wine production.

Alive in the Vineyard and Alive in the bottle

IS THE COMPANY'S ETHOS

Planted in rich loamy soil structured with limestone the property is bordered by native bushes and gum tree species. Wildlife species such as crested cockatoos; Lorikeets, Bluetongue Lizards, Herons and other native animals find shelter and water in the properties dams. The Mediterranean climate drifting through the Eucalyptus Trees in the afternoons allow for cool sea breezes on hot summer days and a wonderful fresh scent. A small fruit orchard consisting of plums, cherries, apricots, pomegranate and citrus varieties entice bees to naturally pollinate our grapevines, trees and plants.
